What do you learn about Jesus, asking one of the most disliked men in town to become his follower?
this means that God would accept anyone willing to come to him.jesus also sais in answer to the scribes who murmur among themselves and ask him why do you eat and drink with sinners, Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. so jesus wants to give hope to all and not only the jews who have this thing of thinking they are the chosen people, and God is only for them.jesus is saying that the old rules of the old testament where you are saved by race has gone and these are the days of the new testament , the new covenant between god and mankind where all people can find salvation by FAITH in God through jesus christ and not only because the are jews

The Calling of Levi

After these things he went out, and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax office, and said to him, "Follow me!"
He left everything, and rose up and followed him. Levi made a great feast for him in his house. There was a great crowd of tax collectors and others who were reclining with them. Their scribes and the Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, "Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?" Jesus answered them, "Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
