Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
From my studying, Jesus' penalty for OUR sin included physical and emotional pain as it is Gods will for us to suffer- When Jesus came to earth He experienced we will experience, so that He is able to sympathise with us in everything we experience.

i think because God wont ever punish us by spiritual separation from Himself. just physical and emotional pain. which is how Jesus was punished.

i know that Jesus loves each and everyone of us. from the poor to the rich, from the infant to the old. He was sent by His Father to die undeservingly for me and to give me a second chance in life.

Does Jesus believe lowly people are valuable? How valuable?
Jesus sees us all valuable. even the poor abd lowly. but the people who are humble are the ones He wants us to learn from and to be like them.

"According to Jesus, what does it mean to be loved by God?"
to be loved by God means to have God save you and even give His son to die for our sins. He (God) will be with us and protect us all. "... no one shall snatch them out of My hand." ( John 10:27)

Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

Christ's mission was to edify God's faithfulness to His creation, and in so doing He chose to suffer excruciating pain in enduring inhumane punishments handed down to Him by the so-called scholars and teachers of the law so that we in turn will be awakened and strengthen our spiritual belief and be worthy of being saved from eternal damnation.

He conquered fear of physical and emotional pain to demonstrate love for us, true faith and obedience in glorification to the will of God the Father our Creator.

Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

Because Jesus was human, I think he had to feel the pain that we do when we suffer.  Though most of us will never suffer the severity of Jesus' agony, when I sin against God my heart aches knowing that I hurt Him.  So I'm sure his emotion at hurting his father was great too, but more intense since he was burdened with everyone's sin at his death.

In order to forgive our sins, I believe God needed to experience us as flesh. In order for our sins to be forgiving he needed to suffer all the possible suffering a human could suffer and then after we would suffer no more, the doors of heaven would open up to us, once we understood that he was the lord and messiah who came to suffer for us for our salvation.
