Why were the chief priests and scribes angry, what was it that Jesus said? Chief priests and the scribers were angry because the parable Jesus said was about them; that God the Father sent Him.

Why do you think the priests, scribes, elders did not answer Jesus? They did not want to contradict themselves.They knew it was logic to Jesus' story no matter which angle you looked at it, but they absolutely did not want to believe that he was the Son of God,they could not answer Jesus because they knew Jesus would give them the right answer and they would not able to reply back to Jesus.
