Jesus was giving them the meaning that for one to fast you have to confess your all your sins so as to free your heart from all the obstacles and not make the fasting like religious which was guided by them selves but the proper fasting is guided by the holyspirit. Jesus was giving them the meaning that for one to fast you have to confess your all your sins so as to free your heart from all the obstacles and not make the fasting like religious which was guided by them selves but the proper fasting is guided by the holyspirit.
