Why does Jesus call "Love One Another" a "New" commandment?

It is a new commandment because it fulfils the law. It has been insisted by the Lord Jesus Christ who closed the old covenant and opened up the new covenant; by loving each other make us not commit the rest of the sins in the law for with love we shall never kill each other, nor commit adultery with our fellows wives or husbands' nor fornicating as we shall be causing each other commit sin, nor steal from each others property, nor envy and so on, and it is judged spiritually by God Himself and not by flesh as it is the case in the old covenant. It is a substitute, overlaping and above all transcending of the old commandments.

Why does Jesus tell the growing crowd that one must be willing to renounce everything, including one`s own life, to be Jesus` follower?

That renounce so that nothing can make you lookback and regret become his follower

Why does Jesus tell the growing crowd that one must be willing to renounce everything, including one`s own life, to be Jesus` follower?

Jesus spoke this teaching to get the crowds to think through their enthusiasm for him. He encouraged those who were superficial either to go deeper or to turn back. Following Christ means total submission to him and perhaps even to the point of death.
