Why were the religious leaders so upset that Jesus would heal on the Sabbath (religious day off)? They were upset, because they thought that sabbath was ment to rest. Also the law forbit one from doing anything during the sabbath while Jesus was not obeying what the religous leaders expected him to observe.

Why were the religious leaders so upset that Jesus would heal on the Sabbath (religious day off)? The religious leaders were so angry with Jesus for healing the man on a Sabbath because to them and their religious tradition, no healing could be done on the Sabbath. Healing a man to them was just the same as practicing medicine, and a person could not practice his/her profession on the Sabbath. It was more important for the religious leaders to protect their laws than to free a person from painful suffering.
