What was Jesus trying to teach the disciples? Note: Jesus left twelve baskets full when he fed the 5000 people on the Israel side (Israel had 12 main regions or tribes). I think Jesus wanted the disciples to fully understand and to fully trust in Him for every word that He said and every action He took. For the 12 baskets of leftovers that were filled, I think they represent the 12 tribes of Israel signifying that the redemption was fully upon them as a choosen nation.
