Why did those who passed by mock Jesus?
Those who passed by mocked Jesus for they believed that he was not supposed to face such a death. They expected him to have freed himself from his tormentors and maybe to have performed a great miracle to save himself from crucifixion. They did not understand his mission of saving the world from its sin by dying on that cross.

What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?

i have learnt so many things about Jesus' background that stand out and surprises to mention but a few:

I did not know that after Jesus' birth, Mary and Joseph had other children.

At the age of 12 Jesus could amaze the teachers by his answers and understanding.

In Jewish culture married and unmarried would live under one roof.

A Jewish family lived by very strict moral, social and religous rules.

There were no forks and spoons, food was eaten by dipping in with the fingers.

Red meat was served only as a special occassions and no pork.

People slept on mats and owned limited personal goods.

I have learnt a lot about Jesus' background.

God bless
