How did (does) repenting prepare someone for the Kingdom of God? God is holy and so is His Kingdom, and therefore those who are to enter His Kingdom must be holy. They can only be holy by repenting of their sins and be cleansed. Therefore repenting is request by sinners to be forgiven of their sins and hence a preparation for the Kingdom of God.
