according to Wycliffe Bible commentary,"Love one another was new because the love was to be exercised towards others not because they belonged to the same nation but because they belonged to christ-and this love will be a testiimony to the world.

Also the commandment is new as Jesus changed it from being the usual,"as you love yourself..." to "as i have loved you..." in this Jesus cites Himself as the model!

1 Corrinthians 11:25..."that night Jesus took the cup and said:this cup is the new commandment in my blood." Hence covenant is new as it belongs to the new covenant announced by prophet Jeremiah:"I will make a new covenant...I will place my law deep within them and write on their hearts"(Jeremiah 31:31-34). In the new covenant ,the old covenant is given in a new way. God's law is no longer engraved on tablets of stone, but written in our hearts by the holy spirit who unites our will to the will of God.
