Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

Sin has severe Consequences, the wages of sin is death, first Spiritual death then physical death. Jesus came to take our sins and the torment it had caused us both physically, Emotionaly and Spiritually. He took them and nailed them on the cross. He was done harm for our sake so that we may enjoy better lives in God thro Him.
