Define "Salvation" ? Note how Zachariah (the father of John the Baptist) praises God for fulfilling an old promise (oath/covenant) that "we...should serve him (God) without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life."

Its deliverance out of doing Gods will and God through remission of our sins out of his tender love for us .

Why is it significant that when Mary arrived with Jesus in her womb, the unborn John the Baptist leaped in the womb of his mother Elizabeth?

Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit when her baby leapt in her womb for it could only have been the Holy Spirit that could reveal that the baby Mary was carrying was her Lord and Elizabeth believed. The baby Elizabeth was carrying also recognized our Lord and so she knew her baby too was in God's favour. Later he was to be filled with the Holy Spirit too and prepared the way for the Lord.

Luke starts Jesus` story with the prediction of the birth of John the Baptist. According to Luke, what did the angel Gabriel predict as the future role of John the Baptist?

The angel Gabriel predicted the birth of Zacharias' son, who would have to be named John. He said that John would be great in God's sight and would go in the Spirit of the Lord and prepare the people for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Even those who had gone astray would repent and return and believe in the coming of our Lord.
