Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God? Man is both spirit and flesh, God created man in his own image and from the old testament, man's sinful nature overtook his conscience and Jesus had to come and redeem man from perishing....Jesus had to suffer both physically and spiritually to save mankind...The spiritual separation from God had to bring Jesus on earth to unite man with God(Jesus) in order to rescue us from the sinful nature of the world.
