Because of the Jews pressure and envy of the authorities among the Roman and Jews leaders as He had gained a fast support from the people. But all in all this was a divine manipulation to make the death possible for the fulfilment of human liberation.

If neither Herod nor Pilate found anything worthy of death to convict Jesus of then why was he sentenced to death? Jesus was sentenced to death to fulfill the scriptures and to redeem the human race from the bondage of darkness and sin.

Why do you think Jesus did not speak to Herod nor answer Pilate? I think he was no longer in this world, he was in the heavenly kingdom and if he had spoken to Herod, he would not have understood Him. Also that his mission on earth was not to be delayed by the thinking of mortals who could only see earthly things without seeing the spiritual realm of God's purpose for mankind.
