What was Mary feeling right before Jesus“ birth? Note: She is described here as an unwed pregnant woman, who was forced to travel away from her family, only to deliver her baby in a barn?
Mary believed that what God had promised or said to her was going to be accomplished and she was looking forward to bringing the Messiah into the world. The angel had spoken to her so I think she was calm and collected.

Define "Salvation" ? Note how Zachariah (the father of John the Baptist) praises God for fulfilling an old promise (oath/covenant) that "we...should serve him (God) without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life."
Salvation can be defined as the state of being saved from the power of the evil one. The Jews thought the Messiah would come to save them from the powerful Roman empire. They were ready for a military savior and not for a peaceful Messiah who would conquer sin and its power over our lives.

What do people think about John the Baptist even before he is born? Note: Sometimes a big introduction is given for a person who then introduces someone even more important. Luke is announcing the announcer of Jesus.
People knew the hand of God was upon John even before he was born, for his parents conceived him in their old ages. The father became deaf and dumb during that time yet he had been able to speak clear all his life. It caused people to see that the child was favoured by God before he was born.
