Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God? Jesus lived on earth as human and he encountered many humanly challenges despite Him being the son of God. The wages of sin is death and because He had taken up all our sin, He had to die and undergo some torture. He had to face what we face and we'll ever face.

Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God? Jesus had to go through the pain because his human side had to suffer. That was a more convincing circrifise than, for example being short and dying all at once. It was an example to us that no matter how much we are inflicted by pain and suffering, we should think of the end result. It was to show us that in this world, we shall most probably suffer bodily pain for the sake of entering heaven.
