Joseph from the town of Arimathaea was a wealthy Jewish religious leader. What risk did he take and why was he willing to do this? Note: Isaiah 53:9 - "And they made His grave with the wicked, But with the rich at His death."
What risk and why? Joseph was not only a councillor, but a prominent one at that. meaning that externally he must have consented to the death by crucifixion of Jesus, which decision was made by the chief priests, the council of elders, and the scribes and pharisees. He consented out of fear for status, yet internally he was thirsty for God's kingdom, and sought it desperately. He risked going upto pilate, who was already disgusted with the jews as a group, and washed his hands to demonstrate that he had totally nothing to do with the blood of Jesus. Joseph sought the kingdom of God by attempting to do a good thing. Salvation by works. His change of heart clearly indicated that he regretted the death of Jesus, and his role in it. Thanks to God that he is now remembered for the firm, but good decision he made to sacrifice his tomb to the saviour, and to pull his body down and bury before sabbath.

Why is it signficant that Jesus fulfilled what was predicted hundreds of years before? Note: Mark refers to the old Scriptures from the Prophet Isaiah (chapter 53) "He poured out his soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And
Jesus was the fulfilment of the law and the prophets. His death is significant because our salvation and atonement is related to it, and was the reason for his divine intervention on earth. His life and death matched the prophesies so that we might ultimately believe and accept him as the one and only servant king the prophets talked of.

The Roman governor, Pilate, found that Jesus had done nothing wrong. Yet, he authorized Jesus` crucifixion to please the crowd. Can you explain why people put popularity above doing what is right?
They fear the power of the people. God is more powerful, but human nature is based on what we see rather than faith in the word of God. Pilate compromised his position to gain human favor rathan God's approval.
