Jesus defines a great person as one who serves others. What did Jesus mean when he said he "did not come to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many."?
His mission was "To do the will of the Father who sent him". To that extent , he was a servant, yet he was the King and the Lord. His methods was in sharp contrast to that of earthly kings and lords. A great leader knows the way, and helps his subjects to achieve. This was leadership by example, even to the point of life sacrifice. He discredited the methods by earthly rulers, which sharply fell short of greatness. Jesus knew that by getting lowest to the earthly physical and spiritual concerns of humanity, God would raise him highest in glory in the Heavenly kingdom.

Jesus knew he would be killed in Jerusalem, and still he led the way. What characteristics does Jesus demonstrate here?
We are more than Conquerers, just like him. In Jesus we have complete victory over forces of evil, even unto death. The Courage, the Boldness, the Determination to accomplish the will of God is unmatched here. Jesus demonstrated fully that he knew the will of the Father, and was determined to go up through it. Jesus knew the Devil is a loser, and this was going to be the time for complete victory over death, torture, scourge, etc. After that, the Ressurrection would be the everlasting sign of God reconcilling mankind to himself through the death of Jesus Christ, and the ultimate defeat of satan. Jesus was speaking humanly to his disciples, who were downhearted, yet he saw the situation heavenly through spiritual eyes. Going up to Jerusalem is synonymous with going up the mountain of the Lord, ie, rising higher spiritually and posing for spiritual war and victory, like Elijah and the prophets of baal, Moses and the Mt. Sinai, Abraham and the Mountain to sacrifice Isaac, etc. Praise Him for ever. Amen

Jesus taught that both believing and forgiving are key to effective prayer. Why do you think they are important?
Hello dear friends, With God forgiving is the key because honestly if Jesus was able to forgive us on the cross when he said that  father forgive them because they don’t know what they are doing. This implies that in our daily life also we should forgive others who hurt and not treated us correctly and when you have to pray after forgiving others and believe God then whatever you ask for shall be given. Believing is to be contented that what you have asked for shall be given to you even if it’s not seen at the moment.
