What if things are failing to hold together in a marriage? Would it be better to cut it off and go to heaven without one half? or would you not rather try some consolation elsewhere? to complete the circle?

This is Jesus` sharp response to a trick question about divorce from religious lawyers. What does Jesus say is God`s role in a marriage? What motivation to stay together might Jesus offer a struggling couple?
God's role in a marriage is matchmaker. He puts the male and female in a position of husband and wife, so that they are joined together as one flesh. A struggling couple ought to know that it is a sin (adultery) to divorce, and to mary another. Their motivation is that a struggle in a marriage ought not to lead to a divorce. The old testament teaching is hereby overturned.

Jesus exaggerates to makes the point that one should eliminate things that cause one to sin (disobey God). What things might you eliminate to be more spiritually healthy?
To be spiritually more healthy, I might need to cast off too many thorns which hinder healthy fruiting. My job keeps most of my time away from church activities, yet its payment rewards is too little to make ends meet, let alone show compassion to others. My friends also in workplace engage in civilian talks. Too many relatives and friends want to depend on my little. It is hard to cut them all off and go to heaven. This teaching of Jesus means total commitment, and possibly relocation into a missionary world away from home.
