Yes Jesus believed in lowly people because they are humble and are looked down upon by others like the Pharisees and the scribes and regarded as low class but before God we are equal. 

Jesus took such actions because he had powers over the temple .Remember this was a holly area but people had made it a  business place instead.So he had to apply his mechanism.
