Why did Jesus answer their question with a question? Why didn`t he just say that his authority came from God?

I think that Jesus answer their question withe a question because He Knew them and their hypocrisy , they are traying to trap him Jesus knew they worshp him in vain , their teaching are but rules taught by man, they have let go of the commmands of God and are holding the traditions of men therefor they w illrefuse him and his words.
