What is Jesus trying to teach with this parable? Hint: The vineyard (where grapes are grown) is Israel; The farmer is God; the servants are the prophets who were sent by God; the son is Jesus; and the tenants are religious leaders of the Jews.

GOD sent many prophets to teach the word to the people, but they would not listen, then GOD sent HIS onlt begotten son, JESUS to teach them about the word but they killed JESUS, so GOD will come to punish those who do not except the word

Why did Jesus answer their question with a question? Why didn`t he just say that his authority came from God?

He knew their thoughts and that they wanted to trick him. He asked them a question knowing that the answer to his question would be the answer to their question. They knew this but their hearts were hardened and so they didn't want to confess with their own mouth that Jesus was sent by God. I also thing he answered with a question because if he said directly that his authority is from God they would have accussed him of blasphemy and might have arrested him before his work was done. He still had to keep who he was a secret.
