What was Jesus trying to teach the disciples? Note: Jesus left twelve baskets full when he fed the 5000 people on the Israel side (Israel had 12 main regions or tribes).
He was trying to teach them to be aware of the teachings of the pharasis and teachers of the law as they only lead to distruction. He also wanted to teach them about faith and that with God everthing is possible. They had to completely trust in God and his son Jesus. The twelve baskets represented the twelve tribes of Israel. He wanted to show them that everything he did and said had a purpose. He also wanted to teach them that surely they were a chosen nation.
