What about Jesus` death impressed the Centurian so much that He realized Jesus was the Son of God? This was because of everything that was happening when Jesus died, the sky darkenning, earth quakes, saints being raised from the dead and veil being split in the temple. They had never seen event of this magnitude after the death of someone so the only way to explain it was that he was truely the son of God.
