What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you? It is interesting to know about Roman rule and the practice of syncretism. Looking at Jesus' background it is not suprising that even his sermons centred mainly on the poor, lowly and the downtrodden since these are the ones who constituted the majority of the people that Jesus grew up with. Of interest also is the distinction between the Pharisees and the Sadducees. It is suprising that Jesus at age 12 had the wisdom to challenge the scribes who had spent years reading and studying the gospel. Such wisdom could only have come from some divine inspiration or influence.
