Why did the multitude want Barabbas released rather than Jesus? Because God had made it such that we receive salvation through Jesus so he hardened the Hearts of the multitude for Jesus to fullfil the purpose of coming to this world. Those by then they did not know the importance of the story surrounding the death of Jesus and the releasing of Barabbas. This is a simbol of us being freed from sin and we accept the blood of Jesus to wash us from sin.
