Why did the high priest view it as blasphemy when Jesus acknowledged that he was the Christ, the Son of God? This was not acceptable, for these are people who had no prophet for 400 yaers then here comes one man who calls himself a son of God who they have been waiting for. Their expectation of the messiah is one who will free isreal from the current bondage. This should be a worrior of God (The God who free them from egypt) not a capenter (they even said "what good can come from nazareth"), it was too humble to be a background of the messiah. This made them to refuse him totally.
