Why was Peter`s rebuke a stumbling block to Jesus? Jesus came to earth to fulfill what is written in the scriptures which was the word of God. Peter's response was as a result of human understanding and against God's will. He wanted to change what was written in the scriptures and so was acting as a stumbling block for Jesus because he was trying to stop him from doing God's will and so Jesus had to rebuke him.

What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you? There is not anything in particular that surprises me but I found each setting to be very interesting. I was not completely aware of the politics during the time of Jesus and I never gave any thought to whether Jesus had any siblings so it was very surprising to find that Mary and Joseph had other children.
