"Was Jesus trying to incite his death (eg. temple cleansing, accusation of leaders?) i dont think that HE incited his death, HE knew that HE was going to die and the way that HE would die. JESUS asked HIS FATHER if there was any way for HIM not to drink of the cup that was going to be given to HIM. JESUS had a job to do and HE obeyed HIS FATHER.
