Define "Compassion"?

Compassion from the Biblical point of view is demonstrated in this passage where a seemingly important person is so humble and true to himself that He demonstrates to his followers (and even Disciples) that a seemingly unimportant and poor person deserves to be heard and helped, if it is within our means. Putting others first in as far as meeting out their needs using our means and the powers within us was what our Lord Jesus Christ was teaching us in this object lesson.

Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

It was so in order for us to appreciate and understand that the sins we commit bear bad results.
