Define "Salvation" ? Note how Zachariah (the father of John the Baptist) praises God for fulfilling an old promise (oath/covenant) that "we...should serve him (God) without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life."

Zachariah meant that people were going to be saved even their enemies will know about God

What do people think about John the Baptist even before he is born? Note: Sometimes a big introduction is given for a person who then introduces someone even more important. Luke is announcing the announcer of Jesus.

The miraculous event sorounding the birth of John made the people think he might be a great prophet or some one special. No clear indication that they might thought him to be the Messiah
