3071 entries for this category: Moses and Elijah were given to know something of our Lords work. It had been revealed to them. They had spoken of this day and had looked forward to it. Just a few hours earlier Peter had reacted to the idea of the exodus with 'Never Lord! This shall never happen to you. You will never die this way. I have made my confession of you as the Christ, the son of the living God. What would happen to me if you did. What would happen to the church which you promised to build on a rock. But Moses and Elijah had no problem with the idea of the exodus. They were aware of the divine musts. Jesus must go and must suffer and must die. They knew that he would accomplish the purposes of God. Why did Jesus take just Peter, James and John with Him to witness his transfiguration? THAT THEY CAN KNOW THAQT HE IS THE SON OF GOD AND AFTER JESUS HAS RISEN FROM THE DEATH AND WENT TO HEAVEN THEY COULD TELL THE PEOLE ABOUT THIS TRANSFIGUURATION.

Why was Peter`s rebuke a stumbling block to Jesus? Christ saw in the words of Peter a suggestion not so much of his as of Satan's. It was a temptation to shrink from the work for which he came. How quickly has the "rock" turned to a devil! The fruit of divine teaching the Lord delighted to honor in Peter; but the mouthpiece of hell, which he had in a moment of forgetfulness become, the Lord shook off with horror.

Why did Jesus take just Peter, James and John with Him to witness his transfiguration? They are the three most highly favoured disciples. Perhaps he wanted to clear up Peters present spiritual confusion and cast away the gloom that now hovered over the disciples since they heard about his death. He would reassure them by the sight of his essential glory.
