Why is giving in secret more to be commended that giving where people can see it?

Becuase you are doing it from your heart and out of love and obedience of Jesus to honor him. Many of those who make sure they give so that fellow man can see and take notice do so to win honor from and care more about what their fellow man think than what Jesus does

Why did Jesus instruct his followers to react passively when attacked?

Because our defender is the Lord of Host, who will send His angels to fight on our behalf. Active response from us will mean we are intefering in God's vegeance.

Why did Jesus instruct his followers to react passively when attacked?

Jesus loves the Father and obeys His commandments. Thou shall not murder also means we should not be angry or hostile to others. the commandments also instruct us to love thy neighbour as we love ourselves. Also Jesus tells his disciples before his resurrection to preach to others that the road to heaven is to obey God's law and to live one another as he loves us
