It is new because the rule of the OT was an eye for an eye, etc. —Jesus was saying we are to love each other regardless of how we are treated. We are to love as He loves us – unconditionally. He also said we are to love those who treat us wrong or are an enemy. If your like me you soon realize that is only possible by letting Him rule our hearts!

It is a new commandment because Jesus spoke about it in the new Testament. Therefore it is after the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus showed love by dying for us in the cross so that the commandment ''love your nabour" could be certified. He should that to love is to die for a person you love.In the new Testament we had that God is love. therefore if you have Jesus in your heart you become bound to Love someone.
