He kept on saying that he was the son of God and healed so many people yet he couldn't save himself. It proved that he wasn't the son of God because surely God couldn't let his son suffer like that. They did not fully understand the plan that God had.

Why did the soldiers mock Jesus? They were doing as their masters told them to. They were simply following orders. They were also doing it because they didn't believe that Jesus was the son of God and were doing it as a way to humiliate him.
