Why did the high priest view it as blasphemy when Jesus acknowledged that he was the Christ, the Son of God? The Jews had a law that anyone who blasphems should be put to death. To them this is equating yourself to God. They also expected that the messiah would come as a worrior and Jesus was not. He was just a humble capenter's son and nothing special. They also expected that the son of God should be noticable in some way showing his power, but Jesus denied to show them a sign when they asked for it. He was only a man and the fact that he called himself God was blasphemy and gave them the reasons to kill him.
