Peter loved Jesus very much and at that time he was full of emotions concerning how he felt about Jesus without fully understanding the weight of what he was saying. He only said what he felt at that moment forgetting that he was human and that when the pressure is applied they will all yeild to their flesh as they are human and are scared. Jesus knew all this because he knew their thoughts and weaknesses and thus he said that Peter would deny him even when he knew how much Peter loved.

Why do you think Peter was so emphatic and yet so wrong about denying Jesus? Peter was emphatic but he did not understandy want was coming for the Lord and even he did not know the gravity of pain the Lord will go through before he saves the world from sin.
