What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?

I didn't know that Passover was celebrating the deliverance of Jewish people form slavery in Egypt. Also that it was celebrated in Jerusalem because it was a HolyCity, thus why Jesus and his disciples travelled to Jerusalem for their last supper. Also that there were many Jews in Jerusalem at the time of Jesus's arrest, trial and crucifixion because they were celebrating the passover in the holy city.

Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

Man has sinned through his carnal nature. Jesus lived though life with a body of Man so that he would experience all of life's experiences although he was sinless. He had to endure the life of Man in order to suffer for our sins and make us clean that whoseever believes in Him will enter into the Kingdom of God.

What was Jesus trying to teach the disciples? Note: Jesus left twelve baskets full when he fed the 5000 people on the Israel side (Israel had 12 main regions or tribes).

He was trying to teach them not to take anything that comes from people who pretend to be workers of God and that they were a chosen generation which was represented by the 12 baskets and that everything is possible with His blessing.
