Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

l think physical and emotional pain Jesus experienced was to let sinners understand the consequences of sin for says Paul the wages of sin is death. If we think about the pain He went through at the cross and in garden of Gethsemane,we see our sinfulness and the need for Christ to cleanse us and make us free.

If you had a one-on-one meal with Jesus, what would you discuss?

First l would ask Him to see my unworthness and consider me a candidate of heaven, l would thank Him for His love for me and ask Him to give me power to preach His gospel in my generation.l would tell Him my experiences hear on earth ask Him to tell me about our Heavenly home.
