Why did Jesus heal by touching the man with leprosy (a contageous disease)?

Jesus healed by touching the man with leprosy to wipe away the stigma that the community had on the disease and to cancel the believe and all the negative laws and conceptions established against all those who were afflicted by leprosy.

How does Simon Peter feel about himself, and how does Jesus change that?

Simon looked low on himslf thinking that his weakness made him useless and a good for nothing, but Jesus changed it to make Simon realize that for to such He came, who realizing their weak condition and confessing it in humility can be transformed into a valuable instrument of use to others.

Why didn`t Jesus spend more time healing people?

Jesus needed more time to preech the good news as defined in His Ministry here on earth.

The Word is active and living,.... the Word discerns every thought between good and evil( Hebr 4:12).

It is the Word that brings about the miracle of healing not vice versa.It is the Word that transforms and brings about victory. The Word is Jesus.

It was necessary for the Word to be preached, as knowing the Word was knowing Jesus. Knowing Jesus equally is knowing His Name, and knowing His Name is knowing that at the mentioned of this Name, every knee must bow.

God sent His beloved, so that we can know Him, believe in what He says and who He is so as to have eternal life, for there is no other by whom we can be saved except Christ Jesus.
