What type of circumstances are there today that might lead one to be a disciple of Jesus, but in secret, like Joseph of Arimathea?

There should be no circumstances that should make one to be a diciple secretly but some christians because they don't have the faith of daniel and brothers because in country where christians are not allow to fellowship they need to raise with their faith like daniel and say no matter what my God will say me and if he does not then i better die than do any than do any thing for God secretly

When Jesus said, "it is finished", what did "it" refer to? That is, what was finished?

christ was send on earth for a purpose. to accomplish a mission. for an assignment. When he said it is finish he meant his assignment has finish. he has done what he came to do here on earth

Jesus mission as we all know was to save man from sin.He was to do this as He had earlier told his Disciples, by carrying a cross which was to be given phsically to Him by wicked men.As such He was to be bitten,humiliated,crucified and to die a painful death thus fufilling His Fathers will.He thus said this because what the Prophets said in the scriptures was fufilled as such Jesus had to say this last word to testify that everything wasb done according to the Fathers Will.
