Note how Zachariah (the father of John the Baptist) praises God for fulfilling an old promise (oath/covenant) that "we...should serve him (God) without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life." Salvation is freedom from slavery, the act of saving the soul. It is a gift of grace from God through Jesus Christ when He died on the cross of Calvary. So that we may serve the Lord our God in holiness and righteouness and without fear.

What do people think about John the Baptist even before he is born? Note: Sometimes a big introduction is given for a person who then introduces someone even more important. Luke is announcing the announcer of Jesus. Because of the miraculous event sorounding the conception and birth of John, people thought that he would be the Messiah. A thought later on John persisted to correct.

Since Luke was researching for a high government official, "Most Excellent Theophilis", how many eyewitnesses (and who) do you think Luke interviewed before writing his report? I think Luke must have really interviewed Matthew, Mark John, Jesus's Apostles, those who witness and those who received miracles and am sure even those who have been skipticals.
