All the worldly things (which are temporary) that took preeminence in ones life should not hinder one from serving him rather one should sacrifice all for his sake and this is life everlasting. Jesus wants to care for the people of Jerusalem by protecting them and preaching the word to them in order for them to repent but they refuse. Why does Jesus tell the growing crowd that one must be willing to renounce everything, including one`s own life, to be Jesus` follower? Jesus is telling us that to be his disciples takes a lot of sacrifice and commitment without which one cannot be a good follower.
