When Jesus calls he doesn't expect any excuse from us again. When he calls he doesn't expect us to have any dealing with unbelievers again since they are not willing to be saved even the dead man was not saved before he died - hence the saying 'let the dead bury their dead'. He expects us to spread the word about the kingdom of God at once without hesitating.
