And now, here he is beholding what he had all along been waiting for - the fullfilment of the prophecy the consolation of Israel - and then he would be able to die in peace. Why is this old man Simeon so excited to meet this baby Jesus? Because his eyes had seen the salvation of Israel which had been prophecied long ago. Then he can now die in peace since he was told that he would not taste death until the birth of the messiah.

Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God? Jesus had to go through such because he came to the world as a man and not a spirit being. Also because we humans go through physical and emotional pains Jesus needed to go through what we go through that way, he took our place in order for our sins to be washed away. If he had gone through only spiritual separation his coming to the world would have been in vain. Then he wouldn't have gone through what we were going through as a result of the fall and there would be no reconciliation between man and God.
