Jesus couldn't deemphasize this because that was the reason of his coming to the world in order to destroy the works of the evil one. Again, If he had deemphasized this the world would not have been saved.

What was there about Jesus` message caused so many of His disciples to turn away? many of the disciples that turn away didn't believe in whatever he said to them(most especially him being Christ)so they could not trust his judgement.moreover his messages was about repentance and accepting him as the son of God.
