What do people think about John the Baptist even before he is born? Note: Sometimes a big introduction is given for a person who then introduces someone even more important. Luke is announcing the announcer of Jesus.

Many events sorrounded the birth of John the Baptist;

- His mother was pregnant at an advanced age that people considered her baren

- The father, Prophet Zachariah was dumb during the entire pregnancy.

Based on these, the thinking of the people of John was more in line with the activities of his father, to be a Prophet.

Ofcourse, they knew that the hand of the Lord was on John but the beheavior of the father at the time of the pregnancy could not make them link John's role to that of Jesus. The behavior diverted their thinking.

They could, and did not imagine that John will be the king and liberator they were expecting with time as the case of Jesus.

John had a lesser role in their thinking.The confirmation of the same name of John by Zachariah, which the family members did not recognize emphasizes this lesser role.

Luke trully was anouncing the announcer of Jesus.

Mary understood that the one in her womb was the Mighty One from God, full of mercy, who will serve and save the people of Israel whom they long expected.
