Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

To me Ifeal the question answers the the very two elements Gogd used in the creation of man before man became a living entity.So what happens to one naturally affects the other,As a comtemporary father and head of our family, when we as children conciously distance ourselves from our parent,we break the shell of our protection, love, security, affection and eventually become homeless.That error is the sin we committ when we bring harm to our body and spirit by delibrately living the life of a truant in the sight of God.
