Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

It was to show how God loves mankind.To show people that,he was sent by God which made him not to disobeyed God by surrender himself to bear the pains.He was laid example to nowaday followers that,they should ready to face pains which may appear by serving God.
