The soldiers mock Jesus Christ because he said he was the King of the Jews. They misunderstand him due to their believe that the have only One God.

Why did the multitude want Barabbas released rather than Jesus?
Because they hate Jesuse- The messiah, and because Jesus said He is The Son of God, so that word-SON OF GOD use to worry them thats why they want barabbas to be free so that they will cruxify Jesus and see if He Can save his self or Not.

What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?
I learnt that Jesus came from a humble and modest background. He also came from a comfortable and averagely statued family. Despite all the powers arrogated to him and all the knowledge he had, he remaimed humble and very obedient to his parents. He obeyed constituted authority and was peaceful by nature. He lived a spirit filled, disciplined life devoid of controvercies, according to the standards of the world. He travelled alot, and was heard of, far across the land, oceans and continents, but he never travelled 200 km away from his birth place. He healed the sick, rose the dead and himself suffered for mankind, payed the supreme sacrifice by dieing on the cross of calvary for the remmission of our sins and rose after 3 days. After another 40 days ascended into heavens' to be with God the Creator.
